Phish Revisit MSG New Year Eve Show & Demand Chess Rematch For ‘Dinner and A Movie’

Phish has announced a special New Year’s Eve-edition of their archival livestream video series Dinner And A Movie as the group will be premiering complete footage of their infamous 12/31/95 concert from New York’s Madison Square Garden

This concert, which was Phish’s first New Year’s Eve show from the cavernous arena, is often cited among the band’s greatest performances (if not the greatest), and features three sets of blistering takes on Phish classics (“Reba”, “The Lizards”, “Mike’s Song”, “Weekapaug Groove” & “You Enjoy Myself”) and some beloved covers (“Drowned”, “Sea & Sand”, “Johnny B. Goode”) as well as a hilarious guest vocal appearance from lyricist Tom Marshall for a brief take on Collective Soul’s “Shine”.

This webcast will also feature a virtual chess match of sorts between the band and audience in a rematch of the games from the fall & winter tours of 1995, which ended in a 1-1 split. According to the press release, “We’ve teamed up with the fine folks at Chess.com to host the Band vs. Audience online chess game which will start right at the top of the show and move at a decent clip. In short, fans will have 5 minutes to move their piece (the band will have no more than that as well). At the end of 5 minutes, whichever move has the most votes is the ‘audience’ move.” Register here, for free, to participate in voting for moves against the band.

All donations made during the stream will benefit Phish’s own charitable organization The Waterwheel Foundation, which issues grants to non-profits from a large sphere of needs including social services, primarily those benefitting women and children; environmental, with a focus on clean water and land conservation with public access; as well as food banks, urban gardening and the like.

Watch the free livestream of Dinner And A Movie, this December 31st, at 8:30PM at https://webcast.livephish.com/ or https://www.facebook.com/phish
